Typhoon Dolphin Intensifies

According to the 5:00pm bulletin from the National Weather Service, Typhoon Dolphin is gaining strength and is now packing winds of 80 miles per hour. It is moving west-northwest at 8mph. Guam is currently under Condition of Readiness 3, which means that damaging winds of 39-57 mph are expected within 48 hours. Guam, Rota, Tinian and Saipan are currently under a Typhoon Watch which means typhoon conditions, including winds of 74 miles per hour and greater are possible within 48 hours. As of 5:00pm the typhoon was located 750 miles east-southeast of Guam. Its closest point of approach to Guam is Friday.

Atlantic hurricane season doesn’t start officially until June 1, but this year we’ve already seen our first named storm.

Tropical storm Ana spent this weekend off the southeast coast, transitioning from a cluster of thunderstorms into a tropical system late on Friday night.

Ana moved onshore just northeast of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, at 6 a.m. Sunday, with 45 mph sustained winds.
