Weather conditions in Serbia last week stayed within the average for the season. Temperatures ranged from several degrees below to several degrees above freezing. We have seen some more precipitation, mostly light rain and snow in lowlands, while mountains of Zlatibor and Kopaonik have had some larger amounts of snow, albeit not very significant.

Thanks to better weather conditions – primarily more rain and appropriate temperatures – crops in Serbia are now strong enough to withstand winter. Mr Milenko Đurić from the Agricultural Office in Loznica told the media that there have been 40 para 50 litres of rain per square metre (approx. 10 – 13 gallons per square yard) in last twenty days. He explained that these values represent the average amount of precipitation in the area for this part of year and concluded that all crops are now ready for winter conditions.

Besides benefiting the crops, the rain has also brought the state of Serbian rivers back to normal. For the first time in months National Hydrometeorological Office has not issued a warning concerning water levels on rivers.

2011 officially passed 1983 as the second wettest year on record after more measurable rainfall collected at O’Hare airport Tuesday morning, de acordo com o Serviço Nacional de Meteorologia.
