Conversely, in Šabac, Serbia, the water levels on an important waterway, the Sava River, were so low that the river was impassible.

The water levels on the Sava River were almost record low last week. The situation was worst on Wednesday, when the level of water in Šabac and Sremska Mitrovica measured over a meter (approx. 3 ft.) below the average values. For the first three days of the week the levels were so low that it was impossible to use the river for transportation. This was a serious issue, as the Sava is one of the most important waterways in both Serbia and the region.
In its 947 km (588 meu) of length, the Sava connects Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and the west of Serbia with Belgrade, where it flows into the Danube. The river is heavily used for transportation of industrial goods, and the water level of this river can significantly impact the Danube water level as well. Later in the week, things started getting better, and according to forecasts, the levels should continue to rise in the following days.
