Firefighters worked to protect hundreds of homes threatened by a wildfire in the Angeles National Forest after shifting winds and extreme heat more than doubled its size Sunday to nearly 40 square miles. Aided by 16 liquid-dropping airplanes and helicopters, meer dan 2,000 federal and local firefighters battled the blaze and tried to steer it away from three mountain communities, VS. The storm which brought torrential rain and strong gusts uprooted a 50-foot tree in a neighbor’s front yard. The tree fell across a car in that yard and then hit Harris’ vehicle.
